Steps in the Surrogacy Process

Your guided journey from first meeting to bringing baby home

Surrogacy, a compassionate act of carrying and delivering a child for others, is a beautiful way to help those who are unable to have children on their own. A surrogate, also known as a gestational carrier, offers the gift of parenthood to individuals or couples who are struggling to conceive. The process involves in vitro fertilization (IVF) using the intended parents' genetic material or donor eggs and sperm. The surrogate's role is to create a nurturing environment for the developing fetus until delivery, providing a pathway to parenthood for those who cannot conceive or carry a child on their own.

Here's a simplified step-by-step surrogacy process:

First Consulting Meeting
This is where we discuss how you want to do your surrogacy process and in which destination. The detailed process varies across countries and across clinics so we will discuss the details with you once you decide upon a country. Do you want to process with the help of an egg donor or with your own eggs? Across all programs, in the event you need to undergo additional cycles then each cycle will add a further 1 to 3 months to the journey depending on whether it is just a surrogate cycle or another egg donor cycle.

Mapping Your Surrogacy Journey / Milestones
We are always by your side. For you to know – IVF, the timing is driven by the woman’s menstrual cycle and although this is influenced by medication every woman still has a particular biological clock that determines the timing of embryo transfers. This is the first major milestone about which most of our clients become anxious. We understand that and it is a period when we support you and answer all your questions and concerns. It is important to know that the surrogate mother is taken care of by a team consisting of a coordinator, fertility doctor, nurses, psychologist and a legal team that takes care of her legal during the process.
2
The Fertility Process / Optimizing the Surrogacy Process
The surrogacy process always involves the selection of optimum gametes and the scheduling of embryo transfer at a time when the surrogate mother’s womb is most conducive to a pregnancy. The health of the surrogate mother and a successful healthy pregnancy are the primary objectives of all involved.
3
Surrogacy Matching & Embryo Transfer / Success Through Comprehensive Measures
The selection of a healthy young woman as an egg donor, the selection of individual sperm, clinical assistance with the fertilization process, the selection of the best quality embryos, preparation of the surrogate with medication and embryo transfer with or without a CGH/PGD process are all elements in ensuring the best chance of a successful pregnancy. Both the egg donors and the surrogate mothers do continuous drug tests as soon as they are in the clinic to ensure the process.
4
Embryo Transfer
After the embryo transfer you will be given an approximate date for a pregnancy test (blood) normally 12–15 days later. This will involve multiple blood tests over a number of days.
5
Early Pregnancy Monitoring
If this test is positive then an ultrasound examination and blood test will be scheduled for about the embryo’s gestational age of 5–6 weeks. This ultrasound should show an embryonic sac, and perhaps an embryo, if the pregnancy is successful.
6
First Trimester Medical Appointments
If pregnant, the surrogate mother will then have medical appointments normally every 2 weeks in the first trimester until an ultrasound is done at 6–8 weeks and the fetus is checked for development and a heartbeat.
7
Second Trimester Medical Care
In the second trimester the surrogate mum will have medical appointments every 3 weeks, approximately, during which she will have an ultrasound, blood and urine tests and physical examination.
8
Preparing for Delivery
In the final weeks the doctor will make a decision as to the delivery date and method, the IPs will be advised immediately if there is a confirmed date for any induced labor or caesarean delivery.
9
Birth / Support Throughout Pregnancy
Throughout the pregnancy a social worker/coordinator/nurse will meet with the surrogate weekly, sometimes at her residence, to ensure there are no issues in terms of her lifestyle, environment and psychological well-being.
10
Coming Home
We ensure that all documentation is completed in advance to get you back home without unnecessary delays after the birth.

We have conducted a thorough investigation of surrogacy programs and legal frameworks in various countries. After extensive negotiations and assessments of local clinics and lawyers in Colombia, Mexico, Georgia, Argentina and the USA, we only offer these programs in these locations. We travel regularly to visit each location to ensure ongoing compliance with our ethical and professional standards of service for both intended parents and surrogates. Our goal is to provide ethical, dependable, and affordable programs that enable IPs and their babies to obtain citizenship and passports from the relevant country in a timely manner.
